Divergent book project #2

I read the book Divergent by Veronica Roth, in this book a character has to make a descion that will change her life forever. The theme of the book is to stand up for what you believe in because this girl, Beatrice(Tris), is from a faction group called Abnegation. Abnegation is a group of people who are very selfless and put people infornt of them. Before I go on let me explain the faction groups. There are five different faction groups based on your characteristics. The factions are Abnegation the selfless, Dauntless the fearless, Candor the open, Erudite the smartest, Amity the peaceful. You take an aptitude test when you are 16 and you get to choose which faction fits you the best. Beatrice takes the aptitude test and finds that she is different and she could belong to many different factions this is called being Divergent. So when she she picks she decides to go to Dauntless and she still has a little Abnegation in her which isn't so good becuase she gets called names. Tris has to fight for what she believes in and has to get through the iniation to offically become Dauntless. She has to get over many obstacles but she never stops and she gives it her all.

The Pearl

In this story The Pearl the main character, Kino, finds a pearl and in the beginning of the story its the best thing ever but by the end it ruins their lives. I think the overall theme in the story is that what seems good right now might turn out to be something worse later on. The pearl like I said seemed great but turned out bad. Juana realized that but it took Kino a lot longer to realize that. By the end of the story Kino attacked Juana and after that I think Kino kind of started to realize that he might have been going crazy. So he got sense of himself got his canoe and left and took the pearl and put it where it came from. Like I said the theme of this story was that what seems good right now might turn out to be something worse later on.

"The Names"

In the poem "The Names" I feel that Billy Collins is trying to explain what a tragedy this event was. Even if you read a few sentences you could still be able to feel how depressing it was. I want to point out this sentence, "I started with A, with Ackerman, as it happened, Then Baxter and Calabro, Davis and Eberling, names falling into place As droplets fell through the dark." This person had lost many to 9/11 and I just wanted to point that out because he really knows what it feels like to have lost friends and maybe even family he expresses that so well in this poem.
